REAP Plan

The Resource Enhancement and Protection Program (REAP) was enacted by the state legislature in 1989.  It is funded from the state's Environment First Fund (Iowa gaming receipts) and from the sale of the natural resource license plate. The program is authorized to receive $20 million per year until 2021, but has only been funded at that level one year (1991) since its inception.  Over the years REAP has funding many programs and projects in Story County.

REAP contains very extensive public participation procedures. Individual county REAP committees are organized throughout the state.  Public and private organizations that are interested in any of the REAP elements can participate on county committees. The primary purposes of these committees are to coordinate REAP projects among the various entities and develop a county REAP plan to help direct future REAP projects. The level of activeness varies among counties in the state.  In Story County we have a very active REAP committee.  The county REAP plan was revised in July 2008.

If you have comments or questions about REAP or the REAP plan, please feel free to contact our office.  We will be happy to put you in touch with the current county chair.  The Iowa Department of Natural Resources also has a great deal of information about REAP on its website at www.iowareap.com.  If you are interested in buying a Natural Resource plate for your vehicle, contact the county treasurer's office.
