Hickory Grove Park

Directions: Between 250th and 255th Streets and 670th & 680th Avenues.
Hickory Grove Park is the largest and most popular of the conservation board's parks. This 445-acre multiple-use recreational area southwest of Colo contains a 98-acre lake stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, channel catfish, and grass carp.
On-site facilities include:
- 42 modern camping sites with 50 amp, 30 amp, and 110 volt electrical service; $17 per night per site (Closed December 1 through March 31.) Camping pads are 10' by 50' long with an additional 10' by 20' pad for a second vehicle.
- Shower house with flush toilets and hot water in main campground
- 10 Primitive camping sites; $7 fee charged (Closed December 1 through March 31.)
- Supervised youth camping - $20/site/night payable at time of reservation - reservation required.
- Senior discount of $1.00 per night offered for persons over 62 years of age.
- Concession with boat rentals and refreshments (Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, noon to 8:00 PM, Memorial Day - Labor Day)
- Sand beach (There are no lifeguards on duty--swimming is at your own risk. There are no swimming fees charged.)
- An alcohol free area exists on and around the beach from the north boat ramp (not including the ramp area) to and including the Supervised Youth Camping Area. No alcohol of any kind or size may be possessed or consumed .
- Picnic sites with tables and grills
- Two enclosed lodges with fireplaces, electrical outlets, outside grills, and water nearby (available by reservation; fee charged)
- Five open picnic shelters (first-come, first-served)
- Hiking trails, canoeing, and boating (electric motors only)
- Public hunting is allowed only in the two game management areas on the south side of the park (see map).
- Winter activities including ice fishing, cross-county skiing, and snowmobiling
| Lodge Reservations
To reserve a lodge, call our main office at 515-232-2516 between 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Reservation fees are:

Oriole Ridge Lodge (north side of the lake - accommodates a maximum of 100 people) - $40 per time period

Snow Bunting Lodge (south side of the lake - accommodates a maximum of 75 people) - $25 per time period
The time periods are 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and 3:00-10:00 p.m. All lodges are first-come, first-served unless a reservation is in place. All open shelters are first-come, first-served.
