Type of Nomination Process

Four cities in Story County fall under Iowa Code Chapter 376.9: Ames, Huxley, McCallsburg and Zearing. A regular election will be held on November 4, 2003, followed by a runoff on December 2, 2003, if needed.

The remainder of the cities in Story County fall under Iowa Code Chapter 44 and or 45 with one election only on November 4, 2003.

The following positions will be on the ballot on November 4th:

AMES: City Council Seats Ward 2, Ward 4 and One At-Large, 3 City Hospital Trustees

CAMBRIDGE: 2 At-Large City Council Seats

COLLINS:Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

COLO:Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

GILBERT:Mayor, 3 At-Large City Council Seats

HUXLEY:Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

KELLEY: Mayor, 3 At-Large City Council Seats

MAXWELL: Mayor, 3 At-Large City Council Seats

MCCALLSBURG: Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

NEVADA: 1 At-Large City Council Seats, Ward 1 and Ward 3

ROLAND: Mayor, 3 At-Large City Council Seats

SLATER:Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

SHELDAHL: 2 At-Large City Council Seats

STORY CITY: 3 At-Large City Council Seats

ZEARING:Mayor, 2 At-Large City Council Seats

Candidate Filing Deadline

The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers for city offices is Thursday, September 18, 2003 at 5:00 PM at the proper city clerk's office.

Early Absentee Voting

Voters may vote early by requesting an absentee ballot by writing the Auditor's Office. Absentee ballots will be mailed out when the ballots return from the printers in late September.

Voters may also vote absentee in person at the Auditor's Office from 8AM to 5PM weekdays after the ballots return from the printers in late September. The last day to vote absentee in person is Monday, November 3, 2003.

The deadline to register to vote for the city election is Friday, October 24, 2003 by 5:00 PM.
