The Iowa Green Party became an official political party under Iowa law on
February 8, 2001. Individuals were able to choose the Iowa Green Party under
party affiliation when registering to vote.
The Iowa Green Party candidate for governor in 2002 failed to gain 2% of the
vote which caused the party to lose official status. The party is no longer
listed on voter registration forms under party affiliation as an option.
