About Mary Mosiman: Originally elected on November 7th, 2000, Mary is serving her 3rd term as Auditor and Commissioner of Elections.  Born and raised on a farm in Hubbard, Iowa, Mary came to Ames in 1980.  She and her husband Dan have been married for 27 years, and are the proud parents of four teenaged daughters.  Kathryn is a junior at ISU.  Madelyn is a senior, Lauren a sophomore, and Hillary an 8th grader in the Gilbert School District.


Mary is a graduate of Iowa State University and has CPA certification.  Prior to becoming Auditor, Mary owned and operated a daycare business for five years.  Before that she spent five years as an accounting assistant at ALMACO, a local Nevada company that manufactures specialized agricultural research equipment.


Since becoming Auditor, Mary has won two Innovation Awards from the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC).  One is for an Election Education Presentation, which she has taken to 1,000+ area high school seniors.  The second is for putting Candidate Profiles on the webpage.  Mary also serves as a Legislative Liaison on behalf of all Iowa County Auditors.  She is a member of the ISAC Taxation and Finance Steering Committee and the National Association of Counties (NACo) Finance and Intergovernmental Affairs Steering Committee.   She also serves as the fiscal agent for Iowa's Region One Homeland Security Board which is comprised of Story and 15 surrounding counties.  In 2008 and 2009, Mary received a Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

 

Mary is SEAT certified, as is the Deputy Auditor of Elections and most of the Story County election staff members.  SEAT is the Statewide Election Administration Training initiative developed by ISU Extension, the Secretary of State's Office, and the Iowa State Association of County Auditors (ISACA).  SEAT provides guidance on Federal and State election laws, Administrative Rules, and best procedures for all types of elections.  Mary has participated in curriculum development and served as an instructor.


Mary participates in several community organizations such as Nevada Rotary, the Gilbert Education Foundation, the Ames Chamber of Commerce Government Affairs Committee, and the Ames Chapter of the American Society of Women Accountants.  She enjoys spending leisure time with family and friends, and, along with Dan, keeping pace with the activities of their four daughters.  Her hobbies include music, jogging, and reading.

About Jane Halliburton: Jane Halliburton is serving her sixth four-year term on the Story County, Iowa Board of Supervisors.  A graduate of Iowa State University and former teacher, she chairs the Story County Board of Health and the Emergency Management Commission.

 

Ms. Halliburton is a past president of the Iowa State Association of County Supervisors and served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa State Association of Counties.  Some of her other statewide activities include serving on the Iowa State University Extension Citizens Advisory Council and as a member of the Governance Board for the Community Vitality Center.  The CVC serves non-metro communities and rural areas throughout Iowa.  She has been appointed by the Governor to the Mental Health, Mental Retardation, Developmental Disabilities, Brian Injury Commission and recently completed two years as Commission vice chair.

 

Jane is a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties (NACo) where she chaired the Rural Action Caucus for three years. She also co-chaired  NACo's Methamphetamine Action Group.  Both groups have worked with Congress to develop effective, comprehensive legislation about meth enforcement, education, prevention and treatment.

 

Halliburton currently serves on NACo's  Rural Action Caucus Steering Committee, Sustainability Leadership Team and the association?s Green Government Initiative, a new national effort to foster cooperation between the nation?s counties and the private sector to develop green government practices, products and policies.

 

Halliburton serves on NACo's Justice and Public Safety Steering Committee.  In 2004, she was one of four county elected and appointed officials asked to serve on the Task Force on State and Local Homeland Security Funding formed by Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge.  She represents NACo on the Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium Advisory Board and also has been appointed to FEMA's Region VII Advisory Committee as a local government representative.

About Wayne Clinton: Wayne Clinton is in his 42nd year as a resident of Story County.  He and Edna, his wife of 44 years, are the proud parents of three children, Antwan, Danielle and Aaron who grew up in Ames and graduated from Ames High School. Wayne and Edna have nine granddaughters and three grandsons.

 

Service is the hallmark of Wayne?s life.

 

A former Ames High School basketball coach and middle school Social Studies teacher, he served in the Ames Community Schools for 34 years.  Wayne also served as an assistant coach for AHS girl?s softball and track.  He has distinguished himself throughout the state as a top notch basketball and football official in both the high school and collegiate ranks.  Wayne retired from the Ames School system on June 2, 2000.

 

Wayne was elected to the Story County Board of Supervisors in 2000 and was re-elected in 2004.  He was appointed as board chair in 2003, 2006 and 2007. He has represented the County on the Ames and Nevada Economic Development Commission, Mid Iowa Development Fund Board and Aging Resources Board of Central Iowa.  Wayne currently represents the Board of Supervisors on the Heart of Iowa Regional Transit Agency, Central Iowa Regional Transportation Planning Alliance (CIRTPA), Ames Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Cherokee Mental Health Institute Advisory Council, Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Board,  Story County Conservation Board and Conference Mini-Board for Ames and Story County Assessors, Youth Employment Advisory Board (YSS), YSS Prevention Policy Board, Mid-Iowa Community Action Board (MICA), Lutheran Services in Iowa Ames Center Advisory Council.

 

Wayne?s state-wide appointments include the Iowa Municipalities Workers? Compensation Association Board of Trustees and the Juvenile Justice Advisory Council, appointed by former Governor Villsack and currently serve on the state Mental Health Risk Pool Board, appointed by Governor Culver. He represents the Iowa Association of Counties Supervisors Affiliate as President for District 1. He chairs the ISAC Technology Clearing House committee.

 

He is a long time member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity.  He was a member and Chair of the Ames Human Relations Commission.  He also served as a city representative for the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Celebration Committee and the Ames Task Force on Equality.  Wayne was a former long time board member for the Boys and Girls Club of Story County and continues to serve as Co-Chair of the Leadership Nevada County Government Steering Committee.

 

Wayne continues to be a member of the Nevada?s United Way Campaign Cabinet representing Story County. He served two years as Co-Chair of the Nevada United Way Campaign committee.

 

He was an inductee in the NE Missouri State Athletic Hall of Fame, Iowa AAU Basketball Hall of Fame, and Iowa Officials Hall of Fame and was the proud recipient of the 1997 Ames Human Relations Commissions Humanitarian Award.  He most recently was recognized as an honorary Ames High Alum for his many years of service as a member of the Ames High coaching staff which produced numerous State Champions and was inducted into the Coaches Hall of Fame in 2006.  One of Wayne?s proudest coaching achievements was as head coach of the 1991 Iowa 3-A State Basketball Championship team.  Fred Hoiberg was an All-State Selection and became AHS all-time leading scorer.  Fred went on to star at Iowa State University and played professional basketball for the Indiana Pacers, Chicago Bulls and now with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

 

Wayne is a native of St. Louis, Missouri and attended college at NE Missouri State (currently Truman State University).  He received a BS in Education in 1966 (Physical Education/Social Studies) and his MA in Physical Education in 1969.

About James Strohman: James Strohman began his service on the Story County Board of Supervisors January 2, 2007.  He was born in Sigourney, Iowa and raised in North English, where his parents raised seven children and operated a John Deere implement business.

James attended Iowa State University, where he earned a Masters degree in public administration and Bachelors degrees in political science and environmental studies.  He also participated in an internship at American University in Washington, D.C.

Prior to serving on the Board of Supervisors, James spent nearly twenty years at the Iowa Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, where he worked as a state investigator: conducting undercover investigations and recovering tens of thousands of dollars for victims of fraud; a public policy specialist: working on criminal justice, energy, and agriculture issues; and an OWI prosecutor: representing the state against over 15,000 drunk and drugged drivers and conducting training for law enforcement personnel around the state.

 

James represents Story County on the Second Judicial District Department of Corrections Board, the Aging Resources of Central Iowa Board, the Mid-Iowa Development Fund Board, and the Regional Workforce Investment Alliance Board.  He also represents the Iowa State Association of Counties on the Criminal Justice Information Systems Advisory Board.

James is the past chair of the Ames Community Development Board and a member of St. Cecilia Parish.  He was written books about Iowa government and travel, a number of newspaper op-ed commentaries related to government and politics, and a series of Iowa travel articles.  He lives in Ames with his wife, Kristin Peyton and four children: Isaac, Ambrose, Stella Maris, and Endylion.

About Deb Schildroth: Deb has been employed with Story County for approximately 14 years in a variety of positions with the Community Life Program and Community Services Department. She has held her current position as Community Services Director since June 2000.

Deb received her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa and a Bachelors Degree in Social Work from Iowa State University. She is a licensed social worker for the state of Iowa. Deb is a member of the Oversight Committee for the childrens behavioral and developmental disability system design. She is the past Secretary of the Community Services Affiliate through the Iowa State Association of Counties and is serving her fourth year on the Affiliates Legislative Review Committee. Deb has also participated on the training committees for County Case Management Services and Central Point of Coordination Administrators.

Deb and her husband, Marty, are both originally from Fredericksburg, Iowa and presently live in Ames.

About Steve Lekwa: Steve is a native of Story County, and has worked for the conservation board since 1973. He grew up along the Skunk River south of Story City, and has a degree in fisheries and wildlife from Iowa State University. Steve is particularly interested in management and preservation of native vegetation areas that still remain in Story County, and in overall land use issues. He is a member of the District Committee for Boy Scouting, and is active in his church. He enjoys hunting, fishing, canoeing, and bicycling when time permits. He and his wife, Sue, live in Nevada.

About Leanne A. Harter, AICP: Leanne joined the Story County Planning and Zoning staff in 1998 as County Planner and was named Director in 2000. Prior to Story County, Leanne was employed with the City of Fort Collins, Colorado, as a City Planner in both the Current and Advance Planning Departments.

Leanne received a Master's Degree in Community and Regional Planning from Iowa State University and a Bachelor's Degree majoring in Political Science and Spanish from Central College in Pella, Iowa. At Iowa State University, Leanne's thesis focused on the historic Lincoln Highway through the state of Iowa and evaluated the historic features and other amenities that could potentially contribute to the successful development of a tourism route traversing the state. In 1997, Leanne successfully passed the AICP exam and qualified for membership in that organization.

Leanne currently serves as the AICP Professional Development Officer for the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association. In addition, Leanne successfully passed the ASFPM Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM) exam in June 2005.

About Paul Fitzgerald: Paul Fitzgerald was elected Story County Sheriff in November of 1992, taking office on January 1, 1993. Before winning election in 1992, Sheriff Fitzgerald was a member of the Waterloo Police Department for 15 years serving in a variety of positions, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Field Training Officer, Tactical Team Member, Firearms Instructor, Patrol Supervisor, Public Relations Officer, and Public Information Officer. He taught for eleven years in the Police Science Program at Hawkeye Institute of Technology, now known as Hawkeye Community College in Waterloo, Iowa. Sheriff Fitzgerald serves on many boards and committees, including Board ofDirectors for the National Sheriffs Association, Iowa Crime Victim's Association, Center for Addictions Recover, Inc., Center for Creative Justice, Iowa Second District Department of Corrections, ACCESS women's center, and others. He has earned a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from St. Ambrose College in Davenport, Iowa; a Bachelors Degree in Law Enforcement from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa; and an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Police Science from Hawkeye Institute of Technology in Waterloo, Iowa. SheriffFitzgerald is a graduate of the FBI National Academy 198th Session. He is married to Evonne M. (Sackrison) Fitzgerald, and together they have four children ranging in age from 12 to 17 years.

About David Jamison: An Ames High Alumnus, Dave was first elected County Treasurer in November 1994 and took office in January 1995. He has led the charge for innovation in the Treasurers office. Under Dave's leadership, the treasurer's office offers services such as monthly payment of property taxes with automatic withdrawl; on-line payment of property taxes; and a reorganization to universal clerks where customers can get help from the first available clerk regardless of the type of business they need to conduct.

About Brett McLain: Brett served in the United States Navy for 21 years (1978-1999) and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. During that time he was in the Navy's aviation program working on the flight deck on aircraft carriers maintaining the F-14 Tomcat aircraft.  He also served as a Navy Instructor at training commands, Boot Camp Company Commander at Great Lakes, and Recruiter in Ames.
