Story County covers approximately 576 miles and has both rural and urban areas.  Story County includes the cities of Ames and Nevada and many smaller communities.  The agency performs most of the peace keeping and emergency services for the unincorporated sections of Story County and 9 contract communities.  The Sheriff's Office also operates the only jail in the county, housing up to 104 inmates.  The Office currently employs approximately 82 people in four different divisions.
