Christiansen Forest Preserve is a 45-acre wooded tract near Huxley. It was donated to the conservation board in 1985 by Charles Christiansen. In mid-June, it's a great place to pick wild raspberries and mulberries. The area is designated as a wildlife refuge; no hunting is allowed.
The preserve includes:
- Hiking, off-road biking, and bluebird trails. Equestrians are not allowed at the preserve; horseback riding is allowed on the trails at Peterson Park, on the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail, and along some sections of the Skunk River Greenbelt.
- Native prairie seed nursery
- Cross-country skiing
- Walnut and pine planting
- Supervised youth camping - $20/site/night/payable at time of reservation - reservation required.
