Directions: 55973 310th Street, between 550th Avenue and 560th Avenue.

Christiansen Forest Preserve is a 45-acre wooded tract near Huxley. It was donated to the conservation board in 1985 by Charles Christiansen. In mid-June, it's a great place to pick wild raspberries and mulberries. The area is designated as a wildlife refuge; no hunting is allowed.

The preserve includes:

  • Hiking, off-road biking, and bluebird trails. Equestrians are not allowed at the preserve; horseback riding is allowed on the trails at Peterson Park, on the Heart of Iowa Nature Trail, and along some sections of the Skunk River Greenbelt.
  • Native prairie seed nursery
  • Cross-country skiing
  • Walnut and pine planting
  • Supervised youth camping - $20/site/night/payable at time of reservation - reservation required.
